Teaching Support

What does the teaching support consist of?

In order to help elementary school teachers plan their science and technology activities, Éclairs de sciences and a number of school boards have worked together to put a teaching support service into place.

This service includes the support of a pedagogical advisor and personalized team meetings with an Éclairs de sciences consultant. School administrations are also invited to create conditions that are favourable to doing science and technology activities. The success of Éclairs de sciences is therefore incumbent on the sharing and collaboration of all members of the participant school’s team.

More specifically, the goal of teaching support is to better familiarize teachers with all the various aspects of the Québec Education Program and the Progression of Learning in Elementary School . The focus of Éclairs de sciences’ support is on developing subject-specific competencies and on acquiring knowledge in the area of science and technology. In addition, planning meetings cover which teaching strategies to use, evaluation methods, and the methods of recording students’ work (experiment workbooks). Reviewing the experiments done in class, any difficulties encountered, as well as success stories also help to enrich the planning of future learning activities.

Schools take part in the teaching and science support service throughout the school year. Moreover, participating schools get priority re-registration for a total of two or three years, depending on the model selected by their school board. The service is completely free of charge for teachers!

To benefit from teaching support

Éclairs de sciences works hand in hand with school boards in Greater Montréal. It is the school boards who provide teachers with teaching support, through their own pedagogical advisors.

If you wish to benefit from this support in your school, contact the pedagogical advisor in charge of science and technology at your school board to find out how to register. You may also get in touch with the Éclairs de sciences program manager (contact information appears on the Contact Us page) to be put in contact with the person in charge of registration in your area.

For the time being, Éclairs de sciences teaching support is offered only to the following school boards: the Commission scolaire de Montréal , the English Montreal School Board , the Lester B. Pearson School Board , the Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeois , the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île , the Commission scolaire des Patriotes , and the Commission scolaire Marie-Victorin . Efforts are ongoing with representatives from other Québec regions to extend the service in the future.

Registration period

Given that Éclairs de sciences is part of a professional development process and that participating teams must attend three or four activity planning meetings during the school year (in addition to doing the activities in-class with students), teaching support and scientific consulting must begin at the start of the school year. Hence, the deadline for teachers to register in Éclairs de sciences is set for mid-October every year. After this time, your application will be retained for the following school year.
